Standard courses normally take 3 to 4 hours and are conducted on Thursday evenings.

Have a difficult schedule or would you just prefer to work one-on-one with your Instructor?  That's easy enough.  We will create a private class for you and your Instructor on a schedule that is convenient for you.

PADI Discover SCUBA Diving Experience

Scubaland offers Discover SCUBA Diving experiences a couple of evenings a month. These are great opportunities to try SCUBA diving before signing up for a certification class.

We provide the Instructor or Divemaster, pool, and all equipment. All you need is a swim suit and an interest in breathing underwater!

There is a brief orientation - because there are few things you need to know about breathing underwater for the first time - and lots of play time in the pool. This is not a class. This is your opportunity to try something new and exciting in a very informal setting.

Please sign up for your Discover SCUBA Diving experience at least 48 hours in advance so we know you're coming and pick up a copy of the medical questionnaire.

  • Will I feel claustrophobic?

    It's unlikely but you may want to choose a mask with a clear skirt and wide field of view.

  • Do I have to know how to swim?

    You need to be comfortable in the water.   When you take the Open Water class, you will do a 10 minute float and swim 200 yds (any style and we don't time you).

  • My ears hurt when I swim down to the bottom of a swimming pool, will they hurt when I dive?

    Assuming you don't have any ear or sinus issues, you shouldn't have a problem.  If you are concerned, you should speak with your doctor.  When you swim to the bottom of a pool you probably don't equalize so your ears hurt due to the water pressure.  In class we will teach you how to equalize the pressure your ears so you don't have discomfort.

  • My friend/spouse/significant other dives, can they join me in the Discover Scuba?

    They are more than welcome to come and observe the class from the pool deck or they can sign up for class with you.

  • Can I get credit from the skills I did in my Discover Scuba class to put towards my Open Water class?
