Popular Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • How long does it take to become an IDC Staff Instructor?

Once you meet the prerequisites of the course, you  will attend 3-4 training sessions  targeted to ensure you understand the roles/responsibilities of an IDC Staff Instructor, know how to conduct an AI program and the psychology of evaluation and counseling.  Once that's done, you will audit an IDC course.  This could take 8 weeks or so and is dependent upon the pace that is set with the IDC course.  See more information in the FAQs for the Instructor Development Section.

  • How much does it cost to become an IDC Staff Instructor?

The course fees are approximately $1000  plus PADI materials of about $1300.  You can also expect to pay for dive park fees and may need some equipment upgrades depending upon what equipment you are diving in.

  • Will I be able to teach at Scubaland?

Most of the time, IDC Staff candidates are a current part of the Scubaland staff already.  Even though we welcome those from outside of our current staff to join us in training, we cannot guarantee that you would have a place to teach at Scubaland.  That said, someone reaching this level of training has typically already demonstrated their professionalism and is someone we would probably want on the team.

  • What happens if my training gets interrupted?

PADI requires you to audit an entire IDC course so if your training is interruped during that time, you will simply join in on the next scheduled IDC.
